Iowa Regulators to Crack Down on Abuse of Misclassification of Contractors
If you're an Iowa business that hires independent contractors - or at least calls those individuals independent contractors - beware. A recent article in the Des Moines Register highlighted a recent report from the state indicated that companies are abusing the classification of independent contractor, as opposed to treating them as an employee, in order to save costs and taxes. The state report recommended enhanced enforcement, including aggressive investigations and cooperation with the IRS.
